GreenChit ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use the GreenChit mobile application and website (greenchit.com).

By using GreenChit, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

a) Information you provide directly

Phone number — used to create your account and verify your identity via OTP
Name — your full name as entered by your building admin
Flat and building details — the flat number and building you are associated with
Complaint descriptions — text you enter when raising a complaint
Expense details — descriptions and amounts entered by admins
Attachments — files or images uploaded as part of expense records (stored securely on AWS S3)

b) Information collected automatically

Device information — device type, operating system version
App usage data — screens visited, actions taken, crash reports
IP address — collected for security and fraud prevention

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Verify your identity and provide secure access to your account
Display your maintenance dues, notices, expenses, and complaints
Allow building admins to manage residents and financial records
Send you important in-app notifications and notices
Improve app performance and fix bugs
Respond to your support queries
Comply with legal obligations

3. OTP Verification

We use MSG91, a third-party SMS service, to send One-Time Passwords (OTPs) to your registered phone number for login verification. MSG91 may collect your phone number to deliver the OTP. Please refer to MSG91's Privacy Policy for details.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure servers hosted on cloud infrastructure.
File attachments (such as expense receipts) are stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 with restricted access.
We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmission.
Access to your data is restricted to authorised GreenChit personnel and your building's admin.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data only in the following cases:

Building admins — your name, flat number, and payment status are visible to the admin of your registered building
Service providers — MSG91 (OTP delivery), AWS (file storage); these providers are contractually bound to protect your data
Legal requirements — if required by law, court order, or government authority

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as required by law. If you request account deletion, your personal data will be deleted or anonymised within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your account and associated data
Withdraw consent at any time by discontinuing use of the app

8. Children's Privacy

GreenChit is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
